Why the Girls’ Day School Trust like Sony Virtuoso

Heathfield School in Pinner liked Sony for a number of reasons; it worked across our existing network so did not require any additional wiring. The sound quality was very good considering it was using the same network cabling. The 30 seat licences they could use in more than one room so effectively they were getting access to 2 language labs for the same price. It was very simple for staff to use the teacher console. The training videos provided for staff to develop at their own pace…

A training programme was also provided at their site by one of the ConnectED trainers and the ability for pupils to use recorded MP3s with their mobile devices. 3 years maintenance and all upgrades including working with Windows 7 are included in the price. And opportunities for other departments to use the software not just Languages…

…Since then other schools have come on board and we have not come across any issues yet that we have not been able to deal with either internally or with ConnectED’s help – normally just a few setting up hurdles to overcome with onboard soundcards but to be fair ConnectED do suggest using their headphones with external soundcards to guarantee performance. Their technical support has been extremely good…

As for the school that have the another competitor lab, they feel that the product has not been the easiest to use (they have had it for around 5 years) and they have had service issues that they felt affected their teaching. They were also unhappy with the high support costs and the extra costs involved when they upgrade to Windows 7 and they like the flexibility of being able to use Sony Virtuoso in more than one teaching room.
